Branch Banking and Trust is a financial holding company that was founded in 1872 by Alpheus Branch and Thomas Jefferson Hedley. At the present time BB&T is one of the top companies in the industry. BB&T is based in Winston-Salem, N.C. The company provides a vast range of services of financial nature such as personal and corporate banking, servicing of loans, mortgages, insurance policies, and trust dealing. In the 90s Branch Banking and Trust was growing very fast which resulted in a number of successful acquisitions of several companies in Maryland, D.C., Georgia and Kentucky.

Branch Banking and Trust has several billions in its assets and conducts its business in 11 states.
